We at American Haberdashery got into the business of making hats for two simple reasons. Our heads were abnormally large and it was hard to find hats that fit.When we found them in our size, they were far from the design aesthetic we were looking for. So what was the solution, learn how to make the hats yourself. A year and a half later we finally acquired enough suppliers and knowledge to really start exploring what was possible. Along the way we developed a style and figured out what worked and what did not. We figured out what we liked about what was available via suppliers and what we would have to manufacture on our own, which turned out to be darn near everything. At first we were producing hats solely for necessity and personal style. Later, as we got better and acquired more experience and knowledge we crossed the threshold into makers. Subsequently people took notice. We could not go anywhere without folks asking us how to acquire the hats and styles we were generating. So we set out to create a brand of hats that was consistent, of the highest quality possible, and invoke a high fashion modern style that reflected who we are. So what we ended up with was a product made of 100% beaver fur felt completed by hand down to the imported French Lambskin sweatbands which adorn each and every hat. We produce most of the parts of the hat in house, so we are able to add a level of customization not normally seen in the hat business.
